The Personnel team operate with a centralised function incorporating Specialist functions such as Resourcing, Learning and Development, Organisational Design and Capability and Employee Relations.


Internal Audit is an independent function within Tesco Bank operating across the entire organisation in accordance with a mandate approved by the Audit Committee. The role of Internal Audit in Tesco Bank is to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls and the system of risk management. Audits acts as the third line of defence within the Tesco Bank risk model.

Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to reduce the risk of operational failure in an organisation and to add value by improving the effectiveness of an organisation's operations. It helps an organisation accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined risk-based approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.


To support the business in achieving its objectives is at the heart of what we do and as a Risk function the most effective way to do this is to manage risk as opposed to avoiding it. We aim to create an environment where risk specialists can bring knowledge and capability to the forefront and where an integrated approach to different types of risk leads to unified and joined up thinking. Our team consists of several areas of specialism including regulatory, credit and operational risk.


We provide our business with up to the minute financial and management information to support commercial decision making and strategic plans to deliver great products to our customers. By providing the best financial processes within a robust financial control environment we help to define and develop our long term targets and short term decisions for Tesco Bank.

Our team consists of several specialist teams focusing on Financial Control, Treasury, Planning and Reporting, Business Analysis, Decision Support and Project Change. We work closely with our colleagues in Group and Retail Services Finance and HSC to share our expertise across Tesco.

IT & Procurement

The IT function is fundamental to Tesco Bank servicing the IT needs and requirements of Tesco customers, enabling them to get the most from their Tesco Bank products and continuing to meet their needs and expectations. Primarily we have two main aims, helping to design and implement change within the IT arena and the ongoing provision of IT service. Our Procurement function supports the whole of Tesco Bank in its buying requirements with external partners.

Within the IT function teams include: Infrastructure Delivery, Architecture, Banking Migration, Service Management and Testing. The types of roles we have recruited for recently are Project Managers, Business Analysts, Business Service Managers and Technical Support roles across the teams.

Internal Communications

The Tesco Bank Communications team strives to enhance our corporate reputation and works to ensure that our customers understand our products and the business delivering them.

Our team of communication experts, drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds, has a constant dialogue with both internal and external audiences. We directly manage communications with media and help the business manage relationships other key stakeholders including politicians, policymakers and consumer groups.

Tesco Bank has a growing staff base and we play a vital role in developing and delivering communications to our staff in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle. To maximise our contribution as good corporate citizen we deliver a community investment programme that co-ordinates fund-raising and sponsorship activity.


In Tesco Bank marketing we act as the voice of the customer for the business and the customer is central to everything we do. It is our responsibility to understand what the customer wants, needs and expects from Tesco bank and then communicate this to them in a clear and effective way.

Our central marketing team includes customer insight, internet marketing, stores marketing, campaign planning and customer communications. Through these teams we deliver tailored customer communications using the full marketing mix, ranging from TV adverts to in-store leaflets to online adverts. We're based across head office in Haymarket Yards and an additional office in the Gyle, Edinburgh. Headed up by our Legal Director, the Legal Team is made up of a number of sub teams which deal with company secretariat matters, banking products and consumer credit work, insurance, contracts and mortgages. We get involved in everything from drafting terms and conditions to signing off marketing materials and negotiating and securing contracts for our business.

Now some people might have an image of legal teams sitting in the background, reading legislation all day and throwing spanners into the works… but not us! We take a very commercial approach to our work and get stuck in to projects and working with our business colleagues. We're always more than happy to pick up the phone and give some advice or just chat through any concerns our colleagues might have, helping them to find a compliant and commercial solution.

Commercial Banking

The Commercial team for banking is based in Haymarket Yards in the centre of Edinburgh. Our job is to really put retail into banking, to be different to the traditional retail banks, to build great banking products for our customers that are easy to understand and offer fantastic value.
