Nicola Jones

Operations Manager, Newcastle

Nicola Jones

When did you join Tesco Bank?
June 2010.

How did you find the application process?
Great, very professional, but relaxed. I felt I could be myself and was very comfortable. I was kept fully informed through the whole application process.

Where were you before Tesco Bank?
Royal Sun Alliance for 16 years.

What made you change jobs?
Opportunity to join a great organisation such as Tesco. Tesco Bank was in start-up mode and I had the opportunity to shape the business.

What is the biggest difference you’ve found?
The values are integral to everything we do and it fits with my own, personal values.

How do you find customers react to Tesco Bank?
I try to listen to my guys on the calls as often as possible.

I think the customers find us really loyal and they enjoy speaking to the guys on the front line. There is no call handling time targets, so the customers get the best out of each call.

How is your trip to work and back?
1 hour there and 1 hour back.

What transport do you use?
I’m green, so I car share with colleagues every day. We have a great time, gives time to off-load and the hour just flies by.

What do you do?
No two days are the same as we’re still laying the foundations. It’s challenging but really enjoyable. Very busy, and I like to dedicate a lot of time to supporting new staff.

What is your team like?
I have 13 direct reports – Team Leaders and Team Coaches.

Any social activities?
I lead the ‘Community Team’ too – we combine a lot of social activities with fundraising and we’ve got a quiz night organised for next Thursday.

How did you find the training?
Given the nature of my role, it was very much on the job training.

How do you see your career developing at Tesco Bank?
I’d love to be here for the rest of my days. I really enjoy coming into work everyday and I hope to be here for the next 25 years.

How would you describe your day to a friend ?
Very busy. I can go from meeting>meeting>meeting. I also get to manage my own workload and manage my guys on the front line.

What do you do in your spare time?
My 2½ year old Gracie keeps me very busy for most of my spare time. As I work full-time, I like to dedicate my free time to Gracie. I also like socialising with friends and relaxing.
