When did you join Tesco Bank?
June 2010.
How did you find the application process?
It was really slick and smooth. I first saw the job advertised online. It was a simple application form and the next day I got a call to follow up my application. Everything was very fast – from my initial application to the first, and then second, interview.
Where were you before Tesco Bank?
Aberdeen City Council.
What made you change jobs?
I was looking to relocate back to the central belt. The job with Tesco Bank looked like a fantastic opportunity. It offered the chance to join an established team and get involved in developing new ways to communicate, like the staff newspaper which we introduced recently.
How do you find customers react to Tesco Bank?
I don’t have any direct contact with customers, but I would say it’s very positive. I’m a Tesco Bank customer myself – I have our Clubcard Credit Card, and I’m pleased!
How is your trip to work and back?
It’s only a 20-30 minute journey.
What transport do you use?
Bus.
What do you do?
There’s never a typical day! When I get in, I check my emails and read the news clippings to keep up-to-date with what’s happening externally. The rest of my day will vary from writing copy and meeting people, to working with design agencies or implementing the communication plans I’m involved in.
My role is to communicate news to staff, whether that’s in the monthly staff newspaper, weekly email or the news we post on the intranet everyday. I’m also involved in lots of different projects and campaigns, so I get to work with people right across the business. It’s great that there’s so much variety.
There’s never enough time in the day – it flies by! But that’s good, as it means I enjoy coming to work!
What is your team like?
There are five of us in the internal communications team. We all get on really well, and as communicators we like to communicate! We’re part of a wider communications team though, so we work closely with media relations and the community team.
How do you see your career developing at Tesco Bank?
I think that there will be lots of opportunities, as the bank is still growing.
What do you do in your spare time?
I’ve recently relocated from Aberdeen to Edinburgh, so I’m busy finding out all about Edinburgh and what is has to offer.
We will give you enough information in our job descriptions and on our website to enable you to make an informed decision about applying.
