Mandy Milbanke

Customer Service Representative, Newcastle

Mandy Milbanke

When did you join Tesco Bank?
August 2010.

How did you find the application process?
Fine. I first applied in January 2010 and got through the process to the last interview stage, but then another job came up and I took that but they went into liquidation, so I rang Tesco back and they said they would keep me in mind. They rang up out of the blue one day and the next day I got the job.

Where were you before Tesco Bank?
Long history – spent 23 years working in a mining company, then 9 years in infra-red equipment, which saw me travel a lot of the world. Then it closed down and went into liquidation. I then enjoyed taking a year out.

What is the biggest difference you’ve found?
It was a challenge as I’ve never worked in a call centre before. I’ve always dealt with people face-to-face. I find it quite hard sometimes when customers can be rude. Then it just clicked one day – I absolutely love coming to work. Everyone is there to help one another.

How is your trip to work and back?
Really easy – clear run (if there are no road-works) as I only live 6 miles away.

What transport do you use?
Car.

What is your team like?
We haven’t been together that long, but we’re a friendly bunch who all help one another out.

Any social activities?
We dressed up in fancy dress around the town for Princes Trust, which was good team bonding and I’m going to plan something for Red Nose Day.

How did you find the training?
Brilliant; spot-on; second to none.

How do you see your career developing at Tesco Bank?
Previously I’ve managed big offices. When I applied for the role of CSR I was questioned as to why I didn’t apply for a Team Leader role. I wanted to understand the job first before taking on a more senior role. I want to progress, and I’ll know when I’m ready.

How would you describe your day to a friend?
Varied. I’ve just come back from an hour’s coaching and you get good, constructive feedback.

What do you do in your spare time?
My spare time is spent playing with my 5 year old granddaughter; most of my time at playgroups. I occasionally go to the gym.
