When did you join Tesco Bank?
March 2010.
How did you find the application process?
Different to anything I’ve come across before. Very efficient. At the interview, they made me really relaxed and you already felt part of a team.
Where were you before Tesco Bank?
Thomson Local – Advertising Sales.
What made you change jobs?
I was made redundant.
What is the biggest difference you’ve found?
Compared to where I worked before, it’s a fantastic company to start a new career in.
How do you find customers react to Tesco Bank?
They love the brand. The feedback we get on the phone is that no other bank is like us. They’re treated as an individual – not a corporate environment.
How is your trip to work and back?
It’s a 10 mile journey that takes just half an hour. It’s a really easy trip as the office is right in the centre of town.
What transport do you use?
I travel by train as I’m close to the station.
What does your job entail?
I’m currently working on a fixed rate savers product/bond investment. At Tesco Bank you get a lot of opportunities to do different things. For example, I’ve been involved in systems/telephony testing.
What is your team like?
There are 8 in my team. It’s a great atmosphere, and not just within our own team as all the teams are close to each other. It’s a good buzz - you never get that Monday morning feeling.
Any social activities?
We had our Christmas night out at the Moathouse which was great – even better still though, I won a raffle prize of a 2 night stay for me and my partner in any Crowne Plaza in the UK. We also have great team lunches.
We also do a lot of charity events. In November, we took part in ‘Movember’ when the guys all grew moustaches in aid of Prostate Cancer and we raised £750.
How did you find the training?
It was different as the business had just started. It was more of an introduction to Tesco. The trainers were great, keeping you engaged and informed all the way through.
How do you see your career developing at Tesco Bank?
There are lots of opportunities. I’ve been on a Team Manager training programme and was recently involved in setting up/testing for savings online accounts. Everyone is there to help you and put you forward if you wish.
I got 7 nominations for Employee of the Year – one nomination came from Diane Rennie, our Head of Savings.
What do you do in your spare time?
My 4 kids take up all of my spare time. I have 3-year old twins, so that’s a real handful!
Your interviewer will be trained in assessment and will be fair and consistent.
